Volunteer Committee Descriptions

On-Course & Scoring Committees:

These committees will be on–course and volunteers should expect to be outside during their shift and be on their feet throughout their entire shift. If you don’t want to walk or stand for long periods of time these committees are not for you.

Leaderboards:  Manage and operate all manual scoreboards and keep them up to date of scores.  Volunteers must be comfortable performing basic computer skills. *Committee specific training will be provided*

Marshals:  Provide ball spotting to players and control the movement and conversation from spectators on and around Tournament site.  Volunteers may also be responsible for handling the movement of players during an evacuation in the event of inclement weather.  Must be knowledgeable of golf etiquette and will be required to stand for extended periods (2 day minimum). *Committee specific training will be provided*

Standard Bearers:  Carry a 4’ sign inside the ropes during play and display players’ scores.  Must be knowledgeable of golf etiquette, able to walk all 18 holes on the golf course, stand for extended period, lift heavy objects and walk while carrying a standard. *Committee specific training will be provided*

Golf Channel:  Assist the television production crew in monitoring the Tournament leaders for television broadcast.  Must be able to use computer and/or other forms of technology, be knowledgeable of golf etiquette and stand for extended periods.

Walking Scorers:  Responsibilities include recording players scores & stats on a handheld device and relaying information using a two-way radio. Volunteers must be comfortable performing basic computer skills and be knowledgeable of golf etiquette and able to walk 18 holes of a golf course. There is a “Participation Rule”: Walking Scorers who work two weekday assignments (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday are the weekdays available) will earn one weekend day assignment. *Committee specific training will be provided*

On-Course Services:  Replenish water, ice, printed material, and other products on course.  Must be 21 years old and be knowledgeable of golf etiquette; may be required to stand for extended periods, operate a golf cart on course, or lift heavy objects.

Scoring Control/Scoring Tents:  Responsibilities include recording incoming player scores as reported by walking scorers during competition play, relaying applicable information, and inputting scores into a transportable device. Volunteers will also be responsible for collecting scorecards from scoring tents during competition as players finish. Volunteers must be comfortable performing basic computer skills. Responsibilities will also include distributing Tournament radios to appropriate staff, volunteers and vendors and ensuring they all get returned at the end of each day and put on charge. *Committee specific training will be provided*

 

Social Committees:

These committees will have daily interaction with staff, sponsors, players and fellow volunteers so remember to SMILE.  Some committees will require volunteers to be outside during their shift where as others may be indoors. Be prepared for both. Experience in Customer Service is welcomed!

Ambassadors / Hospitality Hosts:  Greet all spectators and distribute program guides and pairing sheets as spectators enter. Answer questions regarding directions, pairings and any other Tournament-related information. Ensure that hospitality guests, with proper credentials, are allowed access to the designated hospitality areas and help assist in those areas.

Caddie Services/Driving Range:  Manage and maintain caddie hospitality area.  Responsibilities include caddie registration, towel and bib distribution.  May be required to stand for extended periods or lift heavy objects.  Help with the golf ball distribution at the range & organizing name plates.

Player Services:  Manage player registration, assembly of player information packets, distribution of incoming mail and packages to the player locker room, and various other requests from the players.

Special Events / Pro-Am:  Assist Tournament staff with Tournament-related events, which may include a pro-am, sponsor outings and expos.

Volunteer Services:  Assemble, prepackage, and distribute volunteer uniforms and assist with volunteer check in. During the tournament week serve as the volunteer liaison in the volunteer center and assist fellow volunteers with their requests.  Help coordinate a Volunteer Appreciation activity.  Volunteers are asked to work prior to tournament week if they are available.

 

Tournament Services Committees:

These committees are a key part to making the tournament run smoothly for all in attendance, from players to spectators. Some committees will require volunteers to be outside where as others may be indoors. Be prepared for both. Volunteers should also have good understanding of technology and be able to work with computers.

Shuttles & Golf Carts (ADA):  Control distribution and collection of Tournament golf carts.  Transport players, caddies, volunteers, and staff to various locations by operating 4-, 6-, and 8-passenger carts.  Volunteers must be knowledgeable of golf etiquette and able to operate a golf cart.

Admissions:  Handle all on-site ticket transactions (responsibilities include selling and/or distributing will call tickets and scanning tickets at main entrance). *Committee specific training will be provided*

Transportation:  Manage distribution of Tournament vehicles and transportation of players to and from airports, surrounding hotels, housing, golf course, etc. Must be at least 25 years old and have a valid driver’s license, be familiar with the Irving/Dallas area, and be available starting on Saturday, April 25, 2015, and continue during Tournament Week and the Monday after.
