The 2015 Volunteers of America North Texas Shootout will bring the world’s best women golfers to one of the country’s most celebrated locations. In 2014, Stacy Lewis said she had something to prove on Sunday and she proved once again why she’s one of the best golfers in the world. Lewis shot the low round of the day with a 7-under 64 to clinch her ninth career LPGA Tour victory and first of the 2014 season. She finished at 16-under 268 and six shots clear of South Korea’s Meena Lee. Lewis celebrated her win with several family members and her college coach in her home state of Texas.
The “shootout” format of the tournament will consist of two cuts; the first will be made after the second round to the top-70 and ties, and the second cut will be made to the top-50 and ties after the third round on Saturday. The tournament also provides a unique opportunity for High School and College amateur female players to tee it up against the best players in the world through two qualifying “Shootouts.” The top two finishers from each shootout qualify for a spot in the Volunteers of America North Texas Shootout. In 2014, Annika Clarka (Pasadena-First Baptist Christian Academy) and Maddie Szeryk (Allen High School) beat out 22 other top high school players from the area in March at the High School Shootout. They were co-medalists after both finishing with 71’s at Las Colinas. Sammi Stevens (Hereford, Texas; University of New Mexico) and Brittany Fan (Pearl City, Hawaii; University of Colorado) were co-medalists on Monday after each carding 68 at Las Colinas in the Collegiate Shootout.
